Sennheiser MD 421 KOMPAKT Multipurpose Cardioid Dynamic Microphone
Overview
A workhorse mic that can handle a wide variety of studio and live tasks, the Sennheiser MD 421 KOMPAKT Microphone features the same cardioid, dynamic mic element from the original 421 popularized by the recording and broadcast industry, but housed in a smaller, more compact chassis with an updated mounting clip that makes it easier to position, especially on drum kits. The smaller size also gives the mic a lower profile for podcasting applications.
A Versatile Performer
- While the MD 421 KOMPAKT is excellent for drums, the ability to handle high SPLs and a frequency response of 30 Hz to 17 kHz give this mic a lot of flexibility, and engineers use it on a variety of vocal and instrumental sources, including guitar cabinets and brass instruments.
- The mic delivers consistent signal response within a reasonable range, providing even vocal reproduction whether close-up or at a slightly removed distance. This is particularly useful for podcasting and broadcasting applications, where announcers and DJs can refrain from remaining absolutely stationary.
- The MZH drum clamp (available separately) easily attaches to the mounting clip, allowing you to securely mount the mic directly to your toms and snares for precise positioning.
Dynamic Capsule with Cardioid Polar Pattern
- The MD 421 KOMPAKT features a dynamic capsule that can handle high SPLs, making it well suited for use on loud instruments.
- Additionally, it offers a wide frequency range with an inner bass tube extending the low-end response, ultimately producing a rich and balanced tone with full spectrum clarity.
- The cardioid polar pattern helps to reject off-axis sound, picking up less room acoustics and noise while also reducing bleed from other instruments and feedback caused by monitors positioned within close proximity.
