Overview
The black Audio-Technica BP898 is a durable, subminiature, cardioid lavalier microphone engineered to be low-profile and visually discreet while providing clear, intelligible speech for presenters, on-camera personalities, worship leaders, and broadcasters. The mic delivers clear and intelligible speech, providing reliable performance for film/TV work, interviews, presentations, and events.
The BP898 can handle volume levels up to 140 dB SPL, while its cardioid polar pattern focuses audio capture in front of the mic, picking up less sonic information from the sides and reducing background sound and feedback issues. The capsule's low-end frequency response increases as you position the mic closer to your subject's mouth, providing a 60 Hz to 17 kHz response at a distance of 4". This proximity effect enhances the speaker's voice, making the BP898 well suited for use in close-miking situations.
The mic features a 4.6' cable and is available with a variety of connector options to accommodate various wireless transmitters. Plug-in power from the transmitter is required for operation and this model features a locking Hirose cH-style connector wired for Audio-Technica transmitters. This configuration also includes the AT8545 adapter module, allowing you to plug the mic into a standard XLR input and power it via 11 to 52V phantom power. Two windscreens, a lapel clip, and a case are also supplied.
Compatible Transmitters and Equipment
- Audio-Technica: Works with Audio-Technica transmitters equipped with a cH-style 4-pin Hirose connector, including the 3000 Series (4th generation), 5000 Series (3rd generation), 6000 Series, and future systems.
- Includes phantom power / XLR adapter: This configuration of the BP898 also includes the AT8545 power module, which adapts the mic to connect to standard 3-pin XLR connections and allows it to operate on 11 to 52V phantom power—great for connecting to mixers and PA systems.
